Sébastien Foucan – Founder of Freerunning

In his youth, Sébastien Foucan practiced with his friends an extension of childplay in their town, they called it ‘Parkour’ with reference to ‘Parcours du combattant’. A serious injury was a turning point for his practice, reinforcing his determination to encourage people to take care of themselves and respect their body, mind and environment. He felt there was another dimension to his way, a philosophy similar to Martial Arts and he began including it naturally in his work. He was an early member of the Yamakasi group before moving on to follow his own path, he wanted to give extra dimension to his new discipline; he named it Freerunning, with the aim to promote positive feeling, show his art, explain the philosophy and give inspiration to others. He created his own concept and belief – ‘Follow your way’ – encouraging freedom of expression.

You might have seen him as James Bond’s antagonist in Casinò Royale or with Madonna on the ‘Jump’ videoclip and the Confessions World Tour,  but to us he was a beautiful human being with which I shared a very deep connection with, as a parent, as a teacher, as an artist…

Il freerunning è l’arte di esprimere te stesso nel tuo ambiente, senza alcun limite.

Non c’entra con l’essere bello, riguarda la percezione e l’essere connesso.

– Sébastien Foucan
